Coup De Grâce-Crunch
As the protests of Dhaka's youth rages on, it is perhaps the perfect time to talk about a band that embodies their angst and will to rebel perfectly: Crunch. Having released what is arguably the most solid rock album of 2017, Mad Volume, the band's sound is a hard-hitting throwback to the times when the likes of AC/DC and Aerosmith blew everyone's socks away with powerful riffs and beastly vocals. 'Coup De Grâce' means 'killing blow.' Crunch does exactly that with their portrayal of the pent-up frustration of a man, who is victimised by his higher ups, in turn victimising his own wife. The momentum of the riff slowly builds up, ending in a cataclysmic burst of sheer energy and almost vile power. Even though I refrain from individual shoutouts when talking about a band, the vocalist Shovon Ahmed must be praised for the fact that he has developed the most complete retro styled hard-rock vocals that I have encountered yet. Listen to Crunch's music on their YouTube page, and do support the artistes by buying their album, Mad Volume.
