I am at a loss for words at the moment. I have had a great working relationship with Subir over the years. In 1975, Subir and I teamed up for the song, Hajar Moner Kachhe Proshno Rekhe. It became an instant hit. Since then, there was no looking back for Subir. I also worked with him on his album, Hajar Moner Kachhe. I share in the grief of his family at this difficult time.

Subir Nandi was a hardworking and dedicated singer in every aspect. He was one of my closest friends and I have fond memories of catching up with him at his office. He used to work in a bank. One thing that very few people know about Subir was that he had an excellent collection of music. He was a true music enthusiast and he loved both classical and modern music.

I met Subir for the first time in Sylhet in 1970 during a talent hunt programme. I have great memories of working with him on the songs Bondhu Hote Cheye and Paharer Kanna Dekhe. He was a self-made artiste, who was passionate and sincere about his work. May he rest in peace.

I remember we were recording a song composed by Satya Saha at a studio. It was difficult for Subir to voice the words of the songs. He loved having betel leaf. Upon my request, he had quit the habit for good. Be it film, adhunik or romantic songs, Subir’s talent as a singer shone through every project that he was a part of. He was a brilliant singer and human being. His music will be passed on across generations.

Subir Nandi’s music plays an integral role in our culture. He is the voice behind some of the most memorable Bangla songs. We would be hard pressed to find an artiste as dedicated as him. We have lost a legend, and we will miss him dearly.
