Enabling the music community
National Music House (NMH) is a musical instrument manufacturer and importer based in Dhaka which makes top-class exclusive musical instruments and imports from noted brands like Conn & Selmer, Buffet Cram Pone, Yamaha, Ludwig and several others. For over 70 years, NMH has been supplying brass and woodwind instruments to the Bangladesh Army, Navy, Air Force, Ansar, Police, Bangladesh Coast Guard, Border Guard Bangladesh, IG Prison and individual foundations.
In 2012, Md Nakibul Islam, son of Former CEO of NMH Hedayetul Islam Babul and grandson of Founder of NMH Sheikh Abdus Samad, took over the company. He carries the mission of making NMH a complete music solution centre offering not only a variety of brass, wind and percussion instruments, but also fully functional servicing and repairing amenities with skilled luthiers and opening both instrument and player rental services for different occasions, countrywide free shipping for instruments of any size and EMI based payment option for music professionals and students. NMH will further be associated with different schools and start teaching programmes of musical instruments soon. For the music business in Bangladesh, NMH is to play an instrumental role in impacting music students, professional musicians and the entertainment industry at large.
Recently, NMH organised the launching ceremony of their website (www.nmhbd.com), a live instrumental jazz show featuring laudable performances from the bands The Prime Orchestra, The Seesaw Quartet and The Blues Brothers and an exhibition of musical instruments in the city, in collaboration with American International School Dhaka (AISD). Shoeb Mohammad, Head of Business Development, NMH, gave the welcoming address. Imran Rabbani of The Blues Brothers serves as one of the consultants of NMH. He played a significant role in making the event happen, starting from strategy formulation and planning to execution.
People from the music business were invited to attend the evening as part of NMH's effort to bring together different music professionals in the cause of their mutual betterment. Several members of Bangladesh Musical Bands Association (BAMBA), including their president, Hamin Ahmed, were present. DJ Sonica was announced as the brand ambassador of NMH at the event. Kelley Michelle Taylor, long-time music instructor and band director at AISD spoke about how as Bangladesh becomes part of the fabric of a global economy, becoming familiar with western musical practices allows the country to develop into a prominent participant in the international stage.
NMH also took the opportunity during the occasion to recognise their most senior luthier Imaan Ali, who has been serving the company for around 45 years.
The evening further shed light on fostering an understanding of the true value of music – beyond pure aesthetics and to support the professional roles of musicians who make their living from their art.
