Hybrid Lights: Young bands pay tribute to Chester Bennington
Linkin Park fans from all over Dhaka came together to pay tribute to the legendary vocalist of the band, Chester Bennington, on July 23 at at EMK Centre, Dhanmondi. The event "Hybrid Lights" was organised by aspiring young musicians who are part of the 'Linkin Park Bangladeshi Soldiers' group.
The event featured six young bands: Chitrav, ManBots, Theory, Suicidal Pumpkin, Doorsteps, and Ending Face.
Paying tribute to Chester Bennington, whose death anniversary was on July 20, all of the bands covered song from Linkin Park's discography. The event was kicked off by Chitrav covering "Iridescent", and "Crawling".
"We have been trying to organise this event for almost four years now," said Shahin Mohammad Nasimul Haque, bassist of Chitrav. "Chester was a big part of many musician's childhood, his songs inspired many of us to become musicians. So, his death was a significant loss for us all."
Following Chitrav, Doorstep covered "What I've Done", "New Divide", "From the Inside", and "Papercut". After them, Manbots took to stage covering "In the End", "Figure 09", "Qwerty", and "Messenger".
Right afterwards, Theory went on stage, performing "Don't Stay", "Numb" and "Give Up".
"I grew up listening to Linkin Park and every time I listen to their songs it takes me back to my childhood," said Zubaer Mahmud, drummer of ManBots. "This is our tribute to the musician who inspired so many of us to take up music."
"Chester's voice and his songs always inspired me to pull myself together no matter the adversity I faced," smiled Sam Shahariar, vocalist of Theory. "I could always relate his songs to my own life and gather the courage to move forward."
"For me, listening to Linkin Park gave me solace," added Ayman Shimul, bassist of Theory. "Their music helped me cope with the struggles of life, as I lost myself in Chester's lyrics."
Towards the end, Ending Face came on stage as the headliner for the event, covering three remarkable tracks by Linkin Park: "In the End", "One Step Closer", and "No More Sorrow".
"We have all gained so much from Chester Bennington and this show is our way of paying our respects and expressing our gratitude to Chester," shared Shahin Mohammad Nasimul Haque, an organizing member of the event.
