Celebrating Shabana’s cinematic brilliance on her birthday
Today marks the birthday of noted actor Shabana, who stepped into the world of cinema in the 60s. She last appeared in the 1997 film, "Ghore Ghore Juddho". In 2000, she permanently settled in the USA. She has been out of the limelight for over two decades.
Born as Afroza Sultana Ratna in 1952, Shabana started out as a child artiste in the film, "Notun Shur". Her first role as a leading lady came with the 1967 film "Chakori", opposite Pakistani artiste Nadim. After that, there was no looking back for her.
Clad in beautiful sharees and timeless grace, she won the hearts of millions with her brilliance on the silver screen, delivering one hit film after another.
Shabana has won the National Film Award ten times. She received the lifetime achievement award at the ceremony in 2017. However, she refused to accept the National Film Award for Best Supporting Actor (Female) for her role in the movie, "Janani." She is the first actor to decline a National Film Award.
Particularly, she is known for her gripping performances in films that are based on social issues, in rural regions.
Notable films of Shabana include "Bhaat De", "Mayer Doa", "Ora Egaro Jon" "Shami Keno Ashami", "Chhutir Ghonta", and "Chhando Hariye Gelo", among others.

SS Productions, Shabana's production house that she formed in partnership with her husband Wahid Sadique in 1979, produced several excellent films. The movie, "Matir Ghor", starring Shabana opposite Razzak, was her first venture into production. Throughout her incredibly successful career, Shabana worked in nearly 300 movies.
