‘Mayar Jonjal’ to premiere in Moscow International Film Festival
Mayar Jonjal, also known as Debris of Desire, has been officially selected for screening at Moscow International Film Festival (MIFF). The 42nd edition of the programme began on October 1. The Indo-Bangladesh joint venture has been listed under the 'Films Around the World' category.
The film premiered in Europe today at Moscow. The film will be screened again on the closing day (October 8).
"Hundreds, if not thousands of films from South Asia were submitted to Film Bazaar, Goa. Around 20 among those were recommended to programmers and film distributors," shares the film's producer Josim Ahmed.
"Mayar Jonjal was recommended as a work in progress project at the platform. The organisers of the MIFF have selected this production from the Film Bazaar recommendation." he adds.
This production marks the comeback of renowned actor Aupee Karim on the silver screen after 15 years. Her debut film Bachelor (2004), directed by Mostofa Sarwar Farooki, was an instant success.
The diva will be seen in the role of Shoma, a working woman from Kolkata. Her husband Chaadu, played by noted Indian actor Ritwick Chakraborty, is unemployed. Thus, Shoma has to work hard so that her son can pursue schooling from an English medium school.
Mayar Jonjal also casts Sohail Rana (Satya) from Prachyanat theatre troupe in Bangladesh, Chandreyee Ghosh (Beauty) from Kolkata, Minister in Charge of Information & Technology & Electronic Department, Government West Bengal Bratya Basu (Ganesh Babu).
The screenplay of this production is based on two short stories by celebrated novelist Manik Bandyopadhyay. The associate producer of this film is Flipbook, Kolkata. The movie, directed by Indranil Roychowdhury, was shot in Dhaka and Kolkata.
Indranil Roychowdhury's directorial debut Phoring (drama) was released in 2013. His other notable works include horror-thriller Ekti Bangali Bhooter Goppo (2015) and short film Bhalobashar Shohor (2017).
Mayar Jonjal first premiered at the 23rd Shanghai International Film Festival. The film will hit the theatres in Bangladesh and India next year.
