“In a post-coronavirus world, we all need to concentrate on things that really matter”—Tahsan Khan

Tahsan Khan, one of the most beloved musicians in the industry, has garnered legions of fans with his acting skills over the years as well.  The singer turned actor participated in Auction 4 Auction, a virtual charity programme for COVID 19 relief.  In a recent conversation with The Daily Star, he spoke about the auction and what he has been up to.

How much fund could you raise through this auction?

We raised BDT 7.5 lakh and handed over the cheque to Asif Saleh, ED of BRAC. BRAC will deliver the funds to 5,000 families.

Do you want to share a little about the winning bidder?

The bidder is an owner of a successful private enterprise. He wishes to be anonymous since it is a surprise that he plans to pull off for his wife and daughter. Apparently, they still don't know anything about the event. Initially, he planned to surprise them by bringing them over to my place. However, since the shutdown is in place, we plan to meet after the situation is under control. He might just have to reveal the surprise to his family in a video call with me!

Why did you specifically choose to put up Kothopokothon for the auction to help people in these critical times?

Kothopokothon was my first solo album, and my last album that was mastered on a hardware digital audio tape. I also put up the first handwritten lyric of the track, Irsha, from that album, for the auction. So, the physical objects are priceless as they are.  Furthermore, the album was seminal in bringing about a paradigm shift to the existing music industry by paving ways for experimental electronic music. I never expected that Irsha, a number based on electronic synth, would go on to become the biggest hit of that year. I'm just lucky that even after sixteen years of the song's release, it is still relevant.

How are you spending your time at home these days?

There's a saying in Italian, "Dolce far Niente", which essentially means "Sweetness of doing nothing".  I am just learning to appreciate that concept! I have been reading, writing, watching television and contemplating about life. When it comes to making music, Anupam Roy just sent me a beautiful lyric last week and I am trying to perfect the tune for the song. Hopefully, I will be done with it soon.

Do you have any message for our readers?

It is high time that we start talking about climate change and the growing economic disparities. I would like to say to the readers that the pandemic will end, but in a post-coronavirus world, we all need to concentrate on things that really matter.
