S R H BIPRO

Stand Up Comedy is one of the most daunting prospects for a performer, and S R H Bipro pulls it off with finesse and ease. He is also a radio jockey and a food critic (more of a consumer). The talented young comedian is also the founding president of Stand Up Dhaka, a platform which encourages young artistes to showcase their prowess. The Daily Star sits with Bipro for a round of One Minute Please!

How do you come up with new jokes?

I observe -- not only situations, but also social media trends, political movements and Donald Trump’s speeches!

Tell us one positive and one negative thing about you.

Optimism is one of my better qualities. I would say that my laziness is my worst aspect.

What is your lucky charm?

My team at Stand Up Dhaka, for sure! They are like family to me.

What is something that you should never say on stage?

We should never joke about religion, as it could hurt people’s feelings. Spreading smiles is the aim of comedy.

Tell us about your best moment while performing.

It is completely unrelated to comedy! While on stage, my eyes locked up with another pair on stage, and we instantly fell in love. Even though that didn’t work out, it was beautiful.

Describe the Bangladeshi stand up comedy scene in one word.

Promising!
