Shakeeb Fahad talks about Laughing Elephant

The media production company, Laughing Elephant, is making waves in the market for their innovative content. They worked with brands like Robi, Airtel, GSK, Unilever, Square, Marico for television commercials. They have also collaborated with Masud Ul Hasan and Fuad Naser for their very first music video Tumimoy Lagey featuring Tahsan Khan, Kornia and Sadiya Suchita. The director of Laughing Elephant, Shakeeb Fahad, talks about the company and more with The Daily Star.

Tell us a little bit about yourself.

Till 23, my dream was to never work for a single day in my life. I made quite a few plans to survive without working. But, I failed.Before Laughing Elephant, I used to work at Runout Films, where I joined in 2010. I started directing commercials for Runout Films in 2015. My mother then told me to be more responsible. Hence, I started my own production house.

Tell us about the journey of Laughing Elephant and how it all started.

My producer, Moumita Hussain and I started Laughing Elephant in the beginning of 2017.We found a small office space, which she decorated. Then, we opened a bank account together, did our first commercial, threw a party for our friends and ran out of money to pay the rent for the next month. However, we survived. Like all new startups, we have had our roadblocks, mistakes and heart-breaks but, this has been a thoroughly fulfilling journey so far. If given a chance, I will do it all over again.

Was there any particular project that you enjoyed working the most?

For this year’s Valentine’s Day, we made our very first fiction Chhondo Chhara Gaan for Closeup Kache Ashar Oshomapto Golpo series. I thoroughly enjoyed dealing with a longer format.

What are your future plans with Laughing Elephant?

The future plan is to find someone who can run Laughing Elephant efficiently, so that I can go back to my dream of doing absolutely nothing (laughs)!

Jokes apart, we want to make web series and films in the future. However, we really love advertising. For the time being, we want to concentrate on making commercials in various formats. I am also trying to concentrate on being the best version of myself.
