Solo exhibition ‘Mon Pabaner Nao’ underway at Gallery Shilpangan

Gallery Shilpangan in Lalmatia is currently hosting artist Al Akhir Sarker's first solo painting exhibition, titled "Mon Pabaner Nao - The Fairy Boat". Whether it is life or stillness, fragments of memoirs, light and affection of time and moments, Al Akhir renders the elements that surround his environment in a simplistic form. On the occasion of their 29th founding anniversary, Gallery Shilpangan is hosting this exhibition. Since their initial days, they have been dedicated to celebrating young and promising artists of the country. In that continuity, Al Akhir's work came into the limelight for art enthusiasts and buyers.

Whether it is life or stillness, fragments of memoirs, light and affection of time and moment acknowledgement, Al Akhir renders the elements that surround his environment in a simplistic form. "I was born in Sirajgang and lived a simple life. In the urban context, I am a social recluse. I tend to return to the simplistic concepts of life often reflected in my work," he said.

Dwelling in nostalgia and focusing on subjects that otherwise would skip our attention are captured tenderly in his canvas. Watercolour, pen and marker are the mediums he used. However, he refuses to be a medium-specific artist.  "I use any medium depending upon my mood. The watercolour works have also been mixed with other types of colours or inks," he explained.

With an M F A degree in Drawing and Painting from Faculty of Fine Art, University of Dhaka, Al Akhir has participated in a number of group exhibitions since 2000. He bagged two awards for his work. His works have been taken by collectors from home and abroad.

Director of Gallery Shilpangan Rumi Noman explains the reason to host Al-Akhir's first solo show. "We have been involved in various projects since the last five years. I have observed his dedication and integrity towards art. From the gallary's perspective, we always intend to encourage and promote young talents," he said. They have also introduced an online version of his works for interested buyers who might not be able to visit the exhibition in person due to the pandemic restrictions.

The exhibition is open to all from 3 pm to 8 pm till March 25, 2021.
