Tabu, Ishaan Khatter and Tanya Maniktala to star Mira Nair’s adaptation of ‘A Suitable Boy’
The BBC adaptation of Vikram Seth’s acclaimed novel A Suitable Boy will feature Tabu, Ishaan Khatter, Tanya Maniktala among others, producer BBC announced in a press release. Directed by Mira Nair and adapted by veteran writer Andrew Davies, this six-part series takes place in post partition, post- independence India.
The story revolves around Lata, a spirited university student who is rebelling against her mother’s determination to find her a husband - a “suitable boy”, to marry. She is pressured to choose among three suitors Haresh, Kabir and Amit. Vikram Seth’s 1349 paged novel takes on social and political issues like Hindu-Muslim strife, class struggle, family relations among others.
The filming of the series is set to begin in September 2019.
A Suitable Boy is expected to be released on BBC One in 2020.
