Veteran Indian actor Ruma Guha Thakurta passes away

Veteran Indian actor and singer Ruma Guha Thakurta passed away at her own residence in Kolkata’s Baliganj yesterday at 7:30 am in the morning. She was 84 years old at the time of passing, and was suffering from old-age complications.

She was the former wife of legendary singer Kishore Kumar, and the mother of actor and singer Amit Kumar. Ruma Guha Thakurta acted in classic films such as Aragyaniketan, Palatak and Balika Vadhu. Her films Anthony Firangi, 36 Chourangi Lane and Amritkumbher Shondhan are also highly rated by viewers and critics alike.

Born in 1934 in Kolkata, the actor was married to Kishore Kumar in 1951. After the two split up, she was married to Arup Guha Thakurta, and had two children: Ayon Guha Thakurta and Sramona Guha Thakurta.

“I have lost a dear friend,” said actor Soumitra Chattopadhyay. “It is difficult for me to accept this loss.”
