Rupban staged in Mymensingh
“Rupban”, one of the most famous jatra pala of the area, was staged at a five-day celebration marking Pahela Baishakh.
Mymensingh Sheba Niketan, a socio-cultural organisation and Mymensingh municipal authority jointly organised the programme at Town Hall premises. The event concluded on Friday evening.
Adapted and directed by Dr. HA Golandaj Tara, the pala was staged by Sampriti Mancha, Mymensingh.
Two other dance dramas - “Kala Moyna Baidyar Pala” and “Laily Majnu” -were also staged by the group.
The celebrations included rendition of songs, kichha pala, hitterar geet (a traditional geet of rural Bangladesh to welcome newborn babies) and poetry recitation.
Participants were Sandipon Sangskritik Sangstha, Abdur Rashid Miah Smriti Sangsad, Nazrul Academy, Mukhush Natya Sangstha, Nrittya Dhara and Raga-Ragini Sangskritik Goshthi.
Artistes from Kolkata Dr. Tushar Dey, Bhaskar Dey, Subimol Das, Monisha Ghosh, Ram Khyapa, Shuvra Chakraborty and Ranju Nandi also performed at musical soirees of the celebrations.
