SUPER CHEF

This week heralds the return of two favourites from last year, Mehnaj Rahman and Sabrina. Both heavyweights in the amateur culinary fields, they return this year on their own roads to redemption. “I am here to win,” Mehnaj said defiantly when asked what her intentions were this year. “I am extremely confident with my dish,” Sabrina said with a smile. Both these participants seemed ready for the challenge. 

With even fewer spots left for the taking, the heat in the Super Chef kitchen was becoming intolerable.  But the two returning finalists isn't the only thing that makes this episode worth viewing; there is a lot more. For instance, what happens when you stuff a chicken with cheese and add a layer of baked spinach? What if the judges are torn between your use of ingredients? What happens when the judges start an argument about whether to pick a participant or not? All of these and much more will be answered this week. 

Not only is there limited number of aprons left but right about now there are also few spots on the waiting list. “If you have already proven yourself, then the waiting list is not for you. You can have all the preparation in the world but in the kitchen all it takes is the simplest of mistakes to completely lose out,” Chef Tarik explained. One of the participants this week seems to have fallen prey to just that. Her fault? A pinch of salt more than required and her perfectly prepared dish becomes her worst nightmare. Will the judges forgive the human error on her part or will the mistake cost her? 

This week, there will also be a lot more innovation than any episode before. Participants, wary of the judges' need for innovation, will be pulling out all spots. Some will also be taking care of presentation, another point the judges have repeatedly emphasised on. But sometimes too much caution may spell disaster. Will that happen this week as well? Only time will tell.

Shaheda Yesmin, proprietor and trainer of the exclusive culinary academy Jewel's Kitchen, along with Chef Tarik and superstar Tariq Anam Khan, will all be on their toes this week. The intense scrutiny required to judge every dish is seemingly taking its toll on the judges and this week tempers are more frayed than ever before.
