Attack on Hindus: Engineer sent to jail in Rangpur
A Rangpur court yesterday sent an assistant engineer of Rangpur Zila Parishad to jail in a case filed in connection with attacking Hindu houses in Thakurpara village of Sadar upazila last month.
Senior Judicial Magistrate Quamrul Islam passed the order after investigation officer of the case produced Fazlar Rahman before the court.
On Saturday, Detective Branch of police in Rangpur arrested him at the capital's Shyamoli.
With Fazlar, 75 people have so far been arrested in connection with the attack.
Over a reported Facebook post by one Titu Chandra "demeaning" Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (PUBH), religious bigots vandalised and torched 8-10 Hindu houses in Thakurpara, a Hindu-dominated village, on November 10.
On information, police rushed in, charged baton, fired rubber bullets and lobbed teargas canisters to disperse the attackers, killing a man and injuring 20 others, including four policemen.
