Bhorer Kagoj Editor: Editors' Council concerned over security threat
The Shampadak Parishad (Editors' Council) has expressed serious concern over the security threat against Bhorer Kagoj Editor Shyamal Dutta and the issuance of arrest warrant against him in a defamation case.
It also voiced worries about frequent issuance of arrest warrants and summons against editors and reporters, especially those working in districts, mostly on flimsy grounds.
The concerns were raised at a meeting of the Parishad at The Daily Star Centre yesterday, according to a statement of the organisation.
The Parishad observed that of late different agencies have been calling editors and reporters and seeking explanation for published news items.
"The Parishad considers such practices to be against the freedom of the media and demands that they be stopped forthwith," reads the statement.
