Court ends recording deposition

A Sylhet court yesterday finished recording witness testimony in the murder case of Samiul Alam Rajon, the 13-year-old boy who was tortured to death by a group of men in the district in July.  

Suronjit Talukdar, inspector of Detectives Branch of police in Sylhet, gave his deposition before the Metropolitan Sessions Judge's Court of Akbar Hossain Mridha yesterday, Public Prosecutor Mafur Ali said.

Earlier, the boy's father Azizur Rahman and suspended Jalalabad police Sub-inspector Aminul Islam testified in the case.

During yesterday's proceedings, 11 of the 13 accused, including key accused Kamrul, were present. The court indicted all the 13 in the murder case on September 22.

The court fixed October 25 for closing arguments.

In all, the court has heard testimonies of 36 prosecution witnesses.

On July 8, Rajon was beaten to death by Kamrul and several others in Kumargaon Bus Stand area of Sylhet Sadar upazila, on a flimsy ground that the boy was trying to steal a rickshaw-van. 

One of the culprits filmed the murder scene on a mobile phone and shared it in the social media.

Main accused Kamrul had fled to Saudi Arabia soon after the incident. But Bangladeshi expatriates there caught him and handed him over to the Saudi police. The Bangladesh authorities have recently brought him back to face trial.
