OC suspended over rape allegation
Officer-in-Charge of Paltan Police Station Mahmudul Haque has been suspended following allegations of rape.
He allegedly raped a woman after promising to marry her and give her a decent job.
A departmental case has also been filed against the OC.
The Police Headquarters issued the orders, Assistant Inspector General Sohel Rana told The Daily Star yesterday.
In a complaint submitted to the PHQ on August 2, the woman said she was acquainted to Mahmudul.
Promising her a job, the officer took her to a hotel in the capital’s Fakirerpool in September 2017 and put sedatives in her food and raped her after she fell unconscious, according to the complaint.
The OC raped her on multiple occasions.
She alleged that she became pregnant last year, and the OC asked her to terminate the pregnancy.
The woman also claimed that Mahmudul and his family members had threatened her.
Anwar Hossain, deputy commissioner of Motijheel (Zone) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, told The Daily Star that his department found evidence of Mahmudul’s involvement in the incident.
Mahmudul could not be reached for comments.
