Enforced Disappearance: PM's statement proves govt involved: BNP
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina through her statement on enforced disappearance in parliament has "admitted that the government is involved", BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said yesterday.
On Thursday, the PM in the House said the incidents of enforced disappearances were happening not only in Bangladesh, but also in developed countries.
The prime minister has admitted that the government is involved in the incidents of enforced disappearances, Fakhrul made the comment while replying to a query at the party's Nayapaltan central office.
The BNP leader alleged that the government was making its opponents disappear using law enforcement agencies.
“The incidents of enforced disappearances have been taking place in Bangladesh for the last few years ... families of all the victims are claiming that their near ones have been picked up by law enforcers.”
He also alleged that the government has so far not taken any initiative to prevent the incidents of enforced disappearances.
Responding to another question, Fakhrul said the BNP would not call for any hartal, protesting the power tariff hike.
Criticising the government for increasing the electricity price, the BNP leader said the hike would make the sufferings of the people worse as prices of daily essentials would go up subsequently, which would have put an adverse impact on the country's economy.
