Criminals assault Pabna teacher
Failing to extort money from a college teacher, criminals beat him up in Pabna town on Thursday, leaving him injured.
Abdur Rob, 45, an associate professor of Bangla department at Pabna Government Mohila College, is undergoing treatment at Pabna Medical College Hospital.
Talking to journalists, Rob said Hasan Ali and Nahid were demanding money from him, but he refused to comply.
Around 5:30pm on Thursday, when he was returning home with a new IPS, the criminals demanded money from him again. Being refused, they attacked him in front of his house at Dilalpur in the town, Rob added.
Criminals beat up Rob and hit him in the head, said Shajahan Shoyeb, emergency medical officer of Pabna Medical College Hospital.
Abdur Razzak, officer-in-charge of Pabna Sadar Police Station, said both Hasan and Nahid went into hiding after the incident.
A case was filed against the duo with the police station.
Police are trying to arrest them, the OC said.
Meanwhile, teachers and students of the college demanded punishment of the attackers. They also threatened to launch an agitation today if the criminals were not arrested.
Contacted, Prof Shafikul Islam, principal of the college, said the criminals used to demand money from Rob as he is a new resident of Dilalpur.
Rob, from the district's Bhangura upazila, built a house at Dilalpur, but the criminals were demanding money from him. As he refused to comply, the criminals beat him up, said the principal.
