First Bangla 3D animation series releases trailer
It is considerably difficult for parents nowadays to find appropriate online video content for children, especially in Bangla. As a matter of fact, there is very little to depend on in this regard.
With this in mind, Maverick Studios took up the challenge to make a 3D animated adventure series in Bangla language exclusively for children -- the first of its kind – called “Chacha Bahinir Ajob Kahini”.
“We always had a collective passion for good animation. Be it the beautifully illustrated style established by Studio Ghibli or the super-fun, modern animation crafted by the likes of Pixar, animation as an art form has a remarkable ability to make a story feel absolutely real. We then looked at our story, the stories we grew up with – the works of Sukumar Ray and Upendrakishore, Thakurmar Jhuli, and other fairytales, and realised that Bangla literature has a distinct style that was never translated into animation as an art form,” said Azhar Chowdhury, managing partner of Maverick Studios and one of the creative producers of “Chacha Bahinir Ajob Kahini”.
“Thus, we felt the need to tell our own stories, in our own language, that reflect our rich heritage, told through this beautiful art form that we hold so dear,” he added.
The series will not be limited to online platforms. “We are in talks with television channels and online content platforms as well. We want to launch on as many platforms as possible,” said Azhar.
The project will introduce children's classics, including fairytales of Bangla literature to the new generation in the form of “adventure of a lifetime” in the series.
The upcoming series has released its first trailer on April 9.
They are currently crowdfunding this project, with the intension to "help children develop critical thinking, empathy, and an appreciation for the rich heritage of Bangalee culture."
"Be a part of a historic project -- the first of its kind 3D animated series in Bangla. Play your part in bringing this series to life!" the makers of the animation said to encourage people to provide them with funds for the first three episodes.
Each of these episodes will be 10 minutes long.
"... on the wings of Chacha's fascinating stories, Jhumjhumi and Babu travel to a fantastic world of exotic creatures, magical realms and exhilarating conquests," the studio wrote in its project page, promising world class quality.
Wahid Ibn Reza, working with Sony Pictures Imageworks in Vancouver of Canada, has also joined Maverick's project as creative producer.
Explaining that the cost of such a production is high in a facebook post, he said it is quite impossible for a single studio to provide the money for it. Through crowdfunding, a person can extend his or her financial help to the project if they wish to.
For each contribution and donation, there are specific privileges, Wahid added in the post.
Wahid is also the writer, director, and executive producer of the first Bangla 2D animated feature film on the Liberation War called “Surviving71”. He hopes to release the short film by the end of next year and the full-length version in 2019-2020.
