Five held for 'gang rape' in Moulvibazar
A 20-year-old garment worker was allegedly gang-raped by six men at a residential hotel of Kulaura upazila of Moulvibazar on Friday night.
Police have arrested five of the accused on Saturday afternoon.
The arrestees are Shami Ahmed, 22, of Chatolgaon area in the upazila, Md Al Amin, 23, of Sreepur village, Shahan Ahmed, 22, of Muglabazar, the hotel's manager Nirmol Bordhan, 35, and his assistant Khukon Mia, 20. The other accused, Kashem Mia, 24, of Muglabazar, is on the run.
Police said they were trying to arrest Kashem.
The incident came to light after the victim filed a case with Kulaura Police Station, accusing the six.
Binoy Bhuson Roy, officer-in-charge (investigation) of the station, said Shami Ahmed was the mastermind behind the gang-rape.
According to the case statement, the girl had gotten acquainted with the Shami while working in a garment factory in Savar one year ago. Last Thursday; when she reached to Kulaura rail station by train with Shami, he took her to a residential hotel named Azad Boarding from there at around 9:30pm.
