Five more shot dead
Two alleged robbers were killed in a "gunfight" with police in Brahmanbaria yesterday and police recovered two bullet-hit bodies in Jessore after what the law enforcers claimed were “gunfights” between their rivals.
Police recovered another bullet-riddled body in Jhenidah yesterday.
In Brahmanbaria, two suspected robbers, who were arrested on Saturday, were killed in a “gunfight” in Sarail upazila early yesterday, reports our district correspondent.
The deceased are Bashar Mia, 30, of Swajangram village in Habiganj's Lakhai upazila; and Abdul Wahab alias "Enta Dakat", 28, of Sotiara village in Brahmanbaria Sadar upazila.
Law enforcers said Wahab stood accused in six cases, including murder and robbery, and Bashar in five cases.
Mofijul Islam, officer-in-charge of Sarail Police Station, said, “Police went to recover firearms as per the information of the two. When the police team reached Shahbazpur-Deora regional road of Sarail upazila around 2:45am, their accomplices attacked police to snatch the two."
The "criminals" opened fire and police retaliated, triggering the "gunfight". Wahab and Bashar died on the spot.
Police claimed to have recovered a homemade gun, two cartridges and several sharp weapons from the spot.
In another incident, police recovered the bullet-riddled bodies of two "criminals", along with a number of arms and ammunition, from Sadar and Bagharpara upazilas of Jessore, adds our Benapole correspondent.
Police claimed that the two, aged between 25 and 35, were killed in “gunfights” with their rivals.
Azmal Huda, officer-in-charge of Kotwali Police Station, said a "criminal", aged around 35, was killed in a “gunfight” that took place at Raghurampur in Jessore Sadar upazila around 3:40am yesterday.
On information, police recovered the body.
Meanwhile, police recovered the body of another "criminal", aged about 25, from Bhangura village in Bagharpara upazila.
The "gunfight" took place near a bridge in the village around 9:00am yesterday, said Manjurul Alam, OC of Bagharpara Police Station.
On Saturday, police recovered four bullet-hit bodies from Sadar and Jhikargacha upazilas of the district. The law enforcers had claimed that they were killed in “two gunfights” with their rivals.
In another development, police found the body of an unidentified man near Jhenidah-Jessore highway in Mandartala bus stand area of Jhenidah's Kaliganj.
The body bore marks of bullet injuries, Mizanur Rahman, OC of Kaliganj Police Station, told our Jhenidah correspondent.
