Lawyer tells on murder suspects for bail forgery

A lawyer turned in his own clients when they brought a forged bail order before him.

Advocate Matiur Rahman Uzzal told this correspondent that five of his clients, accused in connection with a murder case in Bogra, came to his chamber at the Supreme Court Bar Association on Sunday.

They then gave him a photocopy of a fake bail order and requested him to withdraw a certified copy of the order from the concerned offices of the HC.

The lawyer then reminded them that the HC had never granted them bail in the case but rather rejected their bail prayer. Following this, the accused left the court area, he said.

Yesterday, Matiur Rahman placed the photocopy of the false bail order before the HC bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Shahidul Karim.

“They committed an offense so I had to bring that issue to the High Court's notice in order for them to be punished,” he said.

Following Matiur Rahman's submission of the fake bail order and after examining the case records, the High Court yesterday directed the police to immediately arrest the five accused in connection with the Omar Faruk murder case. 

The HC also asked the Supreme Court registrar general to find out the persons responsible for fabricating the fake bail order by conducting an inquiry and to file a criminal case against them.

Omar Faruk of Dobila village at Shibganj upazila was killed on March 5 this year. His brother, Md Ferdaus Hossain, filed a murder case with Shibganj Police Station on March 7 accusing five people. 

The accused are Md Tayab Ali, Montazer Rahman, Minhaz, Md Sanaul Sana and Md Mizan from different villages of Shibganj upazila in Bogra, who remain free.

Recounting the event, Assistant Attorney General Md Yousuf Mahmud Morshed told The Daily Star that the HC judges on June 8 this year rejected a petition by Tayab, Montazer, Minhaz, Sanaul and Mizan seeking anticipatory bail in the murder case, considering that the petition was not moved properly before them.

The five though managed to produce a photocopy of a false HC order in which it was seen that they were granted eight weeks' anticipatory bail on June 8 this year in the murder case, although their bail petition was actually rejected by this court on the very same day.
