North Dhaka Mayor Annisul Huq is still under intensive care at a London hospital more than two months into his admission to the hospital with complaints related to neurology.

He would be kept there some more time before being shifted to a regular bed, said AKM Mizanur Rahman, assistant personal secretary to the mayor, quoting Annisul's son Navidul Huq who left for London yesterday.

After he is shifted to a regular cabin, doctors will plan the next course of action, said Dr Abdun Noor Tushar, a family friend of Annisul Huq, in reply to a text message.

Mayor's wife Rubana Huq in a Facebook post early last month wrote that her husband, who had taken the oath of office as mayor on May 6, 2015, was off ventilator and was breathing on his own. He made eye contacts with doctors and was blinking when they conveyed anything to him.

“Doctors just told me that they are happy with stability, and they are hoping that we should know more about his recovery process by next week,” she wrote.

The Dhaka North City Corporation mayor has been suffering from a neurological ailment (dizziness and lack of balance) for some time. He was admitted to a neurology hospital in central London on August 13 before being diagnosed with cerebral vasculitis.

Annisul was suffering from occasional spells of dizziness and lack of balance for the last two months, Rubana told The Daily Star in mid August, and the disease was not detected in Dhaka.
