2 men sent to jail for 'raping' teenage girl

A Jashore court yesterday sent two men to jail on charges of raping a teenage girl in the district's Sadar upazila.

A team of Rab detained the two accused -- Ramjan Sheikh, 21, and Sumon Kha, 20 -- in Monihar area and handed over to the district police early yesterday, said Mohammaed Surot Alom, officer-in-charge of RAB-6 in Jashore.

Later, police placed the two before a magistrate court in the district that directed the law enforcers to send them to jail.

The girl's father filed a case with Jessore Kotwali Model Police Station naming the two on Tuesday night.

According to the case statement, the duo and some of their cohorts picked up the girl at knifepoint and raped her near Monihar Cinema Complex Tuesday afternoon. After two of the criminals raped her, the girl started screaming, forcing the criminals to flee the scene.

Apurbo Hasan, officer-in-charge of Jessore Kotwali Model Police Station, said the girl was sent to Jessore General Hospital for medical tests. Further actions would be taken after law enforcers receive her medical reports.
