6-yr-old raped in Jashore

A six-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a man in Jashore’s Chowgachha upazila yesterday.

The incident happened when the victim, along with her family members, went to a temple for saying prayers, said police.

Saiful Islam Shohag, sub-inspector of Chowgachha Police Station, said the girl was playing outside when other members of her family entered the temple.

At one point, a 19-year-old man picked up the girl, took her to his house and raped her, the SI said, quoting the victim’s mother.

Hearing the girl scream, locals rescued and her rushed to Chowgachha Upazila Health Complex, the police official added.

Munjurul Islam, doctor of the health complex, said the victim received primary treatment and was later sent to Jashore General Hospital as her condition deteriorated.

A case will be filed as soon as the victim’s family returns to Chowgachha from Jashore, SI Shohag said, adding that they were trying to detain the accused.
