Explosions in DU leave authorities clueless
Explosion of four crude bombs near Madhur Canteen yesterday left police and Dhaka University authorities puzzled.
Three crude bombs exploded around 9:45am and another one went off around 5:30pm after it went under a wheel of Prof CR Abrar’s car, witnesses said.
No one was injured in the incidents.
DU Chhatra League in the morning said activists of Chhatra Dal, BNP’s student body, were likely to be behind the incidents.
The incidents happened three days after an unexploded crude bomb was found at the same place.
“A vested quarter that wants to gain political benefits and destabilise the campus, might be behind this,” DU Proctor AKM Golam Rabbani told reporters.
At a prescheduled press conference around 11:00am, DU Chhatra League General Secretary Saddam Hossain said, “This could be an act of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal activists who were deprived of posts in the new committee… This incident needs to be investigated.”
DU JCD Convener Rakibul Islam Rakib said he didn’t want to blame anybody. “Finding out the culprits should not be difficult because there are many CCTV cameras around the place.”
The campus has been tense since December 22 when Ducsu Vice President Nurul Haque Nur and his supporters were attacked.
Storage devices of the CCTV footage of the incident had “mysteriously” disappeared from the room of Ducsu administrative officer.
Ducsu members of the BCL panel yesterday demanded the CCTV footage of the attack on Ducsu leaders.
During the BCL press conference in Ducsu building, they demanded withdrawal of “false cases” against BCL men.
They claimed that the BCL had no connection with the attack.
By filing cases against the Ducsu VP and his followers, the BCL is creating a ground for harassing members of Bangladesh Sadharan Chhatra Adhikar Sangrakkhan Parishad, the platform alleged at another press conference around 12:45pm at TSC.
