IMF DIRECTOR CALLS ON PM
U Tin Thin, director, International Monetary Fund, Asia Department, calls on Prime Minister Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at the Gono Bhaban today. He arrived in Dhaka yesterday on a tour of Bangladesh, a new member of the IMF. During his introductory visit here he will assess the economic situation in the country.
BANGLADESH-BULGARIA JOINT COMMUNIQUE
Bulgaria has agreed to study the various programmes of the proposed Five-Year Development Plan of Bangladesh to be launched next year and consider ways of participating in their implementation on a long-term basis. A joint communique is issued today simultaneously from Dhaka and Sofia on the conclusion of a three-day visit to Bulgaria by Bangladesh Foreign Minister Abdus Samad. It is also agreed that a team of Bulgarian experts will visit Bangladesh soon to this effect.
The two countries, according to the communique, agree that it is in their mutual interest to establish an all-round and closer cooperation in various fields and conclude appropriate agreements.
SOVIET AID FOR OIL EXPLORATION DISCUSSED
The possibility of increased Soviet assistance in exploration of oil and gas and cooperation in other fields is discussed in Dhaka today when USSR Envoy Popov calls on Dr Mafiz Chowdhury, minister for natural resources and scientific affairs.
FIRST BATCH OF BANGALEES RETURNS
First batch of 80 Bangalees all of whom had gone to Pakistan during the occupation regime last year for tablig, arrive in Dhaka from Lahore on an International Committee of Red Cross (ICRC) plane. The second batch of similar number of Bangalees is expected to arrive on November 16, 1972.
