'Drug peddler' killed in Cox's Bazar 'gunfight'
A suspected drug peddler was killed in a “gunfight” between two groups of drug dealers at Hoyaikong Satghoria Para of Teknaf early yesterday.
The deceased was identified as Abdur Rahman, resident of East Moheshkhalia area, according to police.
Rahman was accused in several drug related cases, the police informed.
Hearing the news that two groups of drug dealers were locked in a “gunfight” in the area, police rushed to the spot, said Dipangkor Roy, sub-inspector of Hoyaikong police outpost.
Sensing the presence of police, the criminals fled the scene. Later, the police recovered the bullet-hit body of Abdur Rahman, 3,000 pieces of Yaba tablets, firearms and bullets from the spot, he added.
The victim was rushed to Teknaf Upazila Health Complex from where he was being shifted to Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital. He died on way to the hospital, Dipangkor added.
Resident Medical Officer Shaheen Mohammad Abdur Rahman Chowdhury of the hospital said an autopsy of the body had been done.
However, the victim's relatives claimed that he went missing around nine days ago from Hila area.
