Elderly man killed for 'protesting loud music'
A 70-year-old man was beaten to death allegedly by a youngster for protesting against loud music during a picnic in Jhalakathi's Nalchity upazila early yesterday.
The dead is Abdul Jalil Howlader, of the upazila's Mirhar village.
The victim's son Jihad alleged that a youth, Munim Khan Bappi, started beating up his father around 12:30am as the elderly man got engaged in a feud with Bappi and his aides.
He first requested the youngsters to turn the volume down. Their interaction became violent when they did not follow the elderly man's request. The group of youths had been playing music on loudspeaker since Friday noon, Jihad added.
He further added that his father was repeatedly hit with a stick on his head when the criminals attacked him.
Halim Talukdar, officer-in-charge (investigation) of Nalchity Police Station, said the body was sent to Jhalakathi Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.
No case was lodged and none was held in this connection till the time this report was filed.
