A man was trampled to death by wild elephants in Bandarban’s Naikhyangchhari upazila early yesterday.

The dead Monir Ahmed, 35, was a farmer in Chakdhalar Kalukata area in the upazila, said police.

Anwar Hossain, officer-in-charge of Naikhyangchhari Police Station, said a herd of wild elephants went to the area from the forest nearby at night.

Around 2:00am, when Monir was watching over the paddy bundles collected during the day at Dhankhola field, the herd marched there and trampled him on their way to cross the field, the OC said.

Wild elephants often come to the locality in search of food, he said.
