A 15-year-old girl, seeking legal help after she was raped, got raped again by her uncle. Promising to help her get justice, a third man raped her in Dhaka’s Dhamrai recently.

The eighth grader was raped by a teen on July 27. She then told her uncle about the incident and asked him for advice, according to police.

Her uncle Alamgir, 45, then promised to help her get legal aid and on August 20, he took the girl to his home and raped her, according to a case filed by her mother.

Her mother, who is a garment worker, filed the case with Dhamrai Police Station on September 25, accusing the teen and Alamgir.

The teen was arrested and sent to jail.

After the case was filed, Shamim Khan, 45, the local correspondent of a daily newspaper approached them and said he would help them in the legal battle.

On October 1, Shamim called the girl’s mother and told her that the girl would have to go to a Dhaka court the next day, according to another case filed later.

He appeared at the girl’s house the next morning with a car and picked her up.

Shamim then took the girl to a resort, saying that they would meet a judge there.

Around noon, Shamim took the girl to a room and raped her and then left her near a local market.

After hearing what had happened, her mother took her to the police station later that day and filed a case against Shamim.

“How will we trust people?” the mother told The Daily Star.

Inspector Kamal Hossain of Dhamrai Police Station said police have collected CCTV footage from the resort and saw Shamim at the resort that day.

Dipok Saha, officer-in-charge of Dhamrai Police Station, said Shamim and Alamgir had fled the area.
