Rifat Murder Case: 6 sent to juvenile correction centre
A Barguna court yesterday sent six accused of Rifat murder case to a juvenile correction centre in Jashore.
Senior Judicial Magistrate Sirajul Islam Gazi passed the order around 11:00am in presence of all 14 accused in the case. The court also said that it would hear the charge sheet of the case on September 18, said Mahbubul Bari Aslam, advocate for the accused.
The court sent the six to a juvenile correction centre considering their age, he said, adding that rest of the accused were sent back to jail.
Meanwhile, the advocate submitted a prayer to the court seeking permission to withdraw Arian Shrabon’s statement that was recorded under section 164. The court then directed the advocate to submit the prayer through jail authority as he was in jail custody.
On Sunday, police submitted a 624-page charge sheet to the court against 24 accused of the case.
The prime accused of the case, Nayon Bond, was killed in a “gunfight” with police on July 2.
Rifat Sharif was hacked to death near Barguna Government College on June 6. A footage of the incident went viral on social media, creating a public outrage.
The victim’s father Abdul Halim Sharif Dulal filed a murder case against 12 with Barguna Police Station on the same day.
Rifat’s wife Minni was the only eyewitness of the incident and made accused in the case 18 days after the incident took place.
