Two killed in Ctg blast not identified yet

Officials of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab-7) are yet to identify the two suspected militants killed in a blast inside an alleged den of the banned Islamic outfit Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) on Friday in Jorarganj area of Mirsarai upazila.

Rab lodged a case with Jorarganj Police Station accusing four unknown people, including a woman, under the Anti-Terrorism Act in connection with murder, explosion, and recovery of firearms.

Deputy Director (DD) Squadron Leader Safayat Jamil Fahim of Rab's Feni camp told The Daily Star that Deputy Assistant Director (DAD) MD Azad of Rab-7 filed the case on Friday.

“We had information that four militants including a female were staying in the hideout,” DD Fahim said. However, the identities of the deceased could not be known, he added.

“DNA samples and finger prints have been taken from the spot to establish their identities,” he said.

DD Fahim also said no involvement of the house owner Mazhar Chowdhury, caretaker Haque Shaheb and Md Nayem, who were taken into Rab custody, was found and they would be released.

A faction of the JMB plotted to carry out subversive activities at the court building of Chattogram, Rab claimed after busting the “militant den” in Uttar Sonapahar area of Mirsarai upazila.

Rab personnel recovered an AK-22 rifle, three foreign-made pistols, five improvised explosive devices, and a large amount of grenade-making materials and documents.
