Woman killed in road crash
A mother of 13-month-old child was killed in Dhaka’s Mohakhali as a recklessly-driven bus ran over her yesterday.
The incident happened near Amtoli flyover when Nazmul Hasan, husband of the victim Farha Naz, 25, dropped her near her office around 8:50am, said police and witnesses.
Nazmul got the news of his wife’s death within five minutes of his departure from the spot, said Farha’s sister Jinat Raj.
Farha was an admin officer of RiceCo International Bangladesh Ltd and Nazmul, who works in the Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board, used to drop her on the opposite side of her office regularly, Jinat added.
“As always, she [Farha] was crossing the road to reach her office but the bus took her life,” Jinat said.
Nazmul’s brother Sarfaraz said, “Farha’s daughter has been crying for her mother. She was kept at her maternal grandmother’s place for the time being. The reckless bus just destroyed the dream of a happy family.”
Afzal Hossain, sub-inspector of Banani Police Station, said a bus of Cantonment Mini Service lost its control, ran over Farha and collided with an electric pole. The electric pole and footpath were damaged.
Police seized the bus but the driver managed to flee, he said, adding that they were trying to detain the driver.
Locals rushed Farha to Kurmitola General Hospital where doctors declared her dead, the SI said.
No case was filed as of 8:00pm yesterday in this connection.
On August 27, a female government official lost her left leg in another road accident in the city’s Banglamotor area that involved a recklessly-driven bus.
