Woman raped in Dhamrai
A mother of one has allegedly been gang-raped by several men in Balitha area of Dhaka’s Dhamrai upazila.
The incident came to light on Thursday night after the 24-year-old victim filed a case with Dhamrai Police Station against two named and three to four unnamed people, reports our Savar correspondent.
According to the case statement, the victim, who was looking for a job, recently met one Jashim. He promised that he would arrange a job for her.
On Monday, Jashim asked the victim to go to his rented house in Balitha area. As she went there around 7:30pm, Jashim and another man named Nahid along with three to four others raped her.
Upon hearing cries for help, locals rushed to the home and rescued her. However, the alleged rapists managed to flee.
Filing of the case was delayed as the victim, whose husband is an expatriate in Brunei, received treatment at three local hospitals, said the case statement.
Dhamrai OC Depok Saha said they sent the woman to the One Stop Crisis Centre at Dhaka Medical College Hospital yesterday for tests.
He said they were trying to identify and arrest the accused.
SCHOOLGIRL RAPED
In Mymensingh, police arrested a man in a village of Dhobaura upazila yesterday evening for allegedly raping a 13-year-old schoolgirl, reports our district correspondent.
The arrestee is Abdus Sattar, 30, a farmer from the same village.
According to a case, filed with Dhobaura Police Station on Thursday night by the victim’s father, the girl’s neighbour Sattar asked her on Thursday morning to go to his house when she was on the way to school. The man raped the seventh grader there.
Hearing screams for help, some locals rushed to the house and rescued the girl. But Sattar managed to flee.
Police said the victim was sent to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital yesterday for tests.
