One held over Moulvibazar double murder

Police detained one Rubel Ahmed in connection with the murder of two students on the grounds of Moulvibazar Government High School Thursday evening.

The deceased Shahbab Rahman and Mahi Ahmed were allegedly hacked by rival Chhatra League members and died soon after at Moulvibazar Sadar Hospital.

Detained Rubel Ahmed, 22, son of Fakrul Islam was arrested yesterday at around 11:00am from Moulvibazar town. Police suspect him as one of the killers.

Suhel Ahmed, officer-in-charge of Moulvibazar Police Station confirmed Rubel being one of the attackers who hacked the students over political rivalry.

No case was been filed till Friday 5.30pm but police are on the hunt for all the murderers, the OC said.

The two deceased have been buried after police handed their bodies to their families on completion of autopsy at Moulvibazar Hospital.

Shahbab was a student of Moulvibazar Government College and Mahi an SSC candidate of the same school. Both were involved in student politics of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL).

Police said an altercation broke out between supporters of two BCL factions on the school ground around 7:00pm on the night of the incident. At one stage, Shahbab and Mahi were hacked by rival Chhatra League men with sharp weapons.

Locals rushed the two injured to Moulvibazar Sadar Hospital where doctors pronounced them dead.
