PM undergoes gallbladder surgery in US

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, now in the USA, underwent a gallbladder surgery in Washington on Monday night (Washington time).

“She underwent a successful gallbladder surgery at a Washington hospital at 8:00pm on September 25,” PM's Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim told BSS over the phone yesterday.

He said the PM was taken to the hospital as she suddenly felt pain in her abdomen. After conducting medical check-up upon her, doctors decided to perform the surgery.

“She is now completely well after the successful operation.... She sought 'doa' from the countrymen,” Ihsanul said, adding that the premier was taking rest as per physicians' advice.

PM's younger sister Sheikh Rehana and son Sajeeb Wazed Joy were beside her. She was released from the hospital a day after the surgery.

The PM would return home on October 5, the press secretary said.

Hasina reached New York on September 17 to attend the 72nd United Nations General Assembly. She travelled to Washington from New York on September 22.

She was scheduled to return home on October 2 via London.
