Police launch probe into Beauty murder
Police yesterday formed a three-member committee to investigate the case filed over the sensational rape and murder of a teenage girl in Shayestaganj upazila in Habiganj.
The committee, led by Shamsur Rahman, additional superintendent of police, would probe the rape and murder of Beauty Akhter, 16, and submit a report within three working days, said Bidhan Tripura, superintendent of police (SP) in Habiganj.
Beauty, a resident of Brahmondora village in the upazila, had been stalked and harassed on her way to school and later to work by one Babul Mia and his accomplices, according to a rape and abduction case filed in early March.
Beauty repeatedly refused Babul's advances. On January 21, Babul, a 30-year-old married man and father of one, along with associates allegedly abducted Beauty from her home and held her captive at an unknown location.
He repeatedly raped Beauty between January 21 and February 21 before releasing her, according to the case.
Beauty had to be hospitalised.
The victim's father Sayed Ali, a labourer, filed the rape and abduction case with Habiganj Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal against Babul Mia and his mother, who is a union parishad member.
