9th grader raped in Jashore

A ninth grader girl was allegedly raped by a 40-year-old man in Jashore’s Keshabpur upazila on Thursday evening.

Accused Billal Sardar is a father of three and currently on the run, said Sahjahan Ahmed, officer-in-charge of Keshabpur Police Station.

Talking to The Daily Star, victim’s uncle said Billal entered the girl’s house in the evening when no one else was there and raped her.

A case was filed in connection with the incident, said OC Sahjahan, adding that they were trying to arrest the accused.

Meanwhile in Noakhali, police arrested a man for his alleged involvement in a gang-rape of a teenage girl in Sonaimuri upazila on Thursday night.

Rafiqul Islam Joy, 29, took the girl to an empty house in the afternoon by luring her with marriage proposal and raped her along with two of his accomplices -- Sazzad Hossain Babu and Saiful Islam, said Abdus Samad, officer-in-charge of Sonaimuri Police Station.

On information, police rescued the girl from the house around 11:00pm and arrested Joy from the spot, he said, adding that a case was filed in this connection.

The girl was admitted to Noakhali General Hospital required medical check-ups, OC Samad said.
