Sitakunda Killing: Sub-inspector, 4 others sued
A case was filed against a sub-inspector of Sitakunda Police Station and four other unknown people yesterday for killing a man in police firing in Telipara village on Wednesday night.
Victim Saiful Islam's brother Didarul Alam lodged the case with the same police station, accusing SI Nazmul Huda and four other unknown people of murdering the 24-year-old man.
SI Nazmul, constable Abul Kashem and Ansar member Ismail were taken to police custody and kept at Chittagong Police Lines as they went to Telipara in plainclothes, violating the departmental rules and regulations, said Noor-E-Alam, superintendent of Chittagong police.
OC Iftekhar said, “The trio will be shown arrested in the case and legal action will be taken against them.”
Around 8:45pm on Wednesday, SI Nazmul and the two others, all in plainclothes, went to the village to arrest “drug peddlers”. When they detained two “drug addicts”, locals started shouting, terming the police personnel robbers, said police.
Nazmul, to disperse the mob, opened fire on them. Three people, including Saiful, were injured in the incident. Saiful died at Chittagong Medical College Hospital.
After the incident, the three policemen were closed to Chittagong Police Lines.
A three-member committee, led by Additional Superintendent of Police in Chittagong Mosiuddowla Reza (north), was formed to investigate the incident and asked it to submit the report by today.
