Stabbing Govt Official: Jubo League man, 4 others held in Bogra
Police have arrested five people, including the main accused, in a case filed in connection with stabbing assistant director of Bogra regional passport office.
Mustakim Rahman, office secretary of Bogra town unit Jubo League and also a councillor of Bogra municipality, is the key accused in the case.
According to the case statement, Mustakim along with his six associates entered the room of Assistant Director Shahjahan Kabir at the passport office on Tuesday. He forced Shahjahan to issue a passport without necessary documents, but he refused to do so. At one stage, Mustakim became angry and threatened him.
Following this, Mustakim and his associates chased Shahjahan when he was going to a nearby bus stop to catch a bus to his ancestral home in Meherpur on Thursday. The attackers stabbed him in his head, hands and legs when the victim took shelter in the divisional forest office in Bogra.
On Thursday night, Shajenur Alam, an office assistant of the passport office, filed an attempt to murder case with Shahjahanpur Police Station against 16 accused, 11 of them with names.
The four other arrestees are Hasan Ali, 26, of Malgram in Bogra town; Mohammad Jibon and Rasel Mia, of Thanthania in the town; and Milu. They were arrested from different parts of the town that night.
At a press briefing yesterday, Superintendent of Police in Bogra Ali Ashraf Bhuiyan said they arrested Mustakim around 8:45am in Hili border area in Dinajpur when the accused was trying to flee to India.
The SP, who led the drive, said DB and Dinajpur police assisted them in arresting Mustakim.
In primary investigation, it has been found that Mustakim is involved with attacking Shahjahan, the SP said, adding that Mustakim stands accused in four other cases, including one for murder, filed with different police stations.
