State-run Industries: Workers' wage to be doubled
he cabinet has approved the National Wage Scale-2015 and allowances for the workers of public sector industries, doubling their minimum wage to Tk 8,300 as per recommendations from the National Wages and Productivity Commission 2015.
The approval was given at the weekly cabinet meeting at the Prime Minister's Office yesterday, with PM Sheikh Hasina in the chair.
“The commission has recommended hiking the workers' wage by almost 100 percent keeping consistency with the existing national pay scale,” Cabinet Secretary M Shafiul Alam said while briefing reporters at the secretariat.
He also said the wage scale would have 16 grades and the basic pay under the lowest grade would be Tk 8,300, up from Tk 4,150 while the basic pay under the highest grade would be Tk 11,200, up from Tk 5,600, reports BSS.
According to National Wage Scale-2015, each worker will get house rent at 50 percent of the basic wage, medical allowance of Tk 1,500, conveyance allowance of Tk 200, washing allowance of Tk 100, tiffin allowance of Tk 200, Bangla New Year allowance at 20 percent of the basic wage and festival allowance equivalent to two month's basic pay. The worker will also enjoy others facilities, including encashment of earned leave.
