IS suspect arrested
A Dhaka court yesterday placed a suspected Islamic State (IS) member on a five-day remand after he was arrested in cantonment area on Friday night.
The arrestee, Faiyaz Ishmam Khan, 22, is studying at a Qatar-based university under an online programme.
Metropolitan Magistrate Hasibul Haque passed the order after Inspector Rafiqul Islam of Detective Branch (DB) of police placed Faiyaz before the court with a 10-day remand prayer.
In the remand plea, investigators described the arrestee as an IS member and sought his remand to find out others involved in the terror organisation, said court sources.
DB sources said Faiyaz was arrested based on the information obtained from two arrested alleged IS operatives -- Abdullah Al Ghalib and Fida Muntasir Al Shaker.
Detectives arrested Ghalib on May 30 from a house in Baridhara area, while Muntasir on June 7 from Banani DOHS area in the capital.
With Faiyaz, 17 suspected IS members have been detained by law enforcers across the country in the last six months, according to DB sources.
