Gazi Group Cricketers defeated Abahani Limited by 25 runs in the Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League match at BKSP No. 3 Ground today.

Chasing 283, Abahani enjoyed a solid start but kept losing wickets at regular intervals after the 20 th over. Afif Hossain tried to keep Abahani in the contest with his valiant 76 not out from 80 balls, but his efforts went in vain. Abahani were all out for 257 in 48.1 overs in the end.

Alauddin Babu captured 3-45 in nine overs while Abu Hider and Hossain Ali took two wickets each to peg back Abahani.

Earlier, 97 from Anamul Haque and Parvev Rasool’s 91 enabled Gazi Group Cricketers to post 282 for 9 in 50 overs.

Having been asked to bat first, Gazi Group lost an early wicket, but their second wicket partnership of 61 in 9.4 overs repaired the damage and kept Abahani bowlers at bay. The 4th wicket stand of 93 in 17 overs followed by the 5th wicket partnership of 80 in 10.1 overs extended the game at a rapid pace and took Gazi Group to their imposing total.

Anamul made 97 from 109 balls and his knock contained seven fours and three sixes. Parvez Rasool’s 91 was made in 87 balls, and he smashed five fours and three sixes in his entertaining innings. For Abahani, Mohammad Saifuddin and Kazi Anik took three wickets each.

Chasing 285, Legends of Rupganj were out of the contest as they were struggling at 4-13 inside three overs. Naeem Islam held the Legends’ innings together with 95 from 127 balls. Mosharraf Hossain’s 42 and 34 from Mohammad Sharif took their team close to the target, which proved too tall in the end.

Al-Amin Hossain of Prime Bank took 5-49 in nine overs to rock Legends of Rupganj’s top order. Nahidul Islam and Nazmul Islam captured two wickets each.

Earlier, Rafatullah Mohmand smashed 128 from 125 balls to propel Prime Bank Cricket Club to 284 for 6 after 50 overs.

Prime Bank captain Mehedi Maruf won the toss and opted to bat first. After the early wobble, solid partnerships by the middle order enabled Prime Bank to reach 284 in the end. The 5 th wicket partnership of 92 in 11.1 overs followed by the sixth wicket stand of 58 in 7.3 overs gave the late impetus for Prime Bank.

In chase of Prime DSC’s 203, Kalabagan were well placed at 4-162 inside 41 overs. However, the wicket of Tasamul Haque started the implosion for Kalabagan and they eventually were all out for 201 in 49.2 overs.

Tasamul was the highest run-scorer for Kalabagan with his 89 from 126 balls. For Prime DSC, Farhad Reza and Sharifullah took three wickets each to help their side defend the low total at Fatullah.
