Bangladesh elected as executive member of three UN bodies
Bangladesh has been elected as a member of the executive board of three United Nations organisations -- UNDP, UNFPA and UNOPS – by securing the highest votes for the term 2021-2023.
The election was held yesterday at the UN Headquarters in New York where 54-members of Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) voted to elect members to eight of its subsidiary bodies.
Bangladesh was elected with 53 out of 54 votes with one member abstention, according to a press release.
The victory is demonstration of the trust and confidence that Bangladesh enjoys due to its legacy of working together with the UN entities and their Executive Boards towards socio-economic emancipation of the country under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the release added.
Bangladesh is also a current member at the executive boards of UNICEF and UN Women.
