Bangladesh Water Development Board has warned of a recurrence of the flood in the country.

The board came up with the warning in a report yesterday, Ministry of Water Resources said in a press release today.

According to the report, heavy rains are predicted in Assam, West Bengal, in the Himalayan foothills and north-eastern areas of India for four days -- from July 20-21.

As a result, there is a possibility of similar flood situation in the north, northeast and central parts of the country, it said.

Arifuzzaman Bhuiyan, executive engineer of the government's Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre, said that according to the data, about 800 mm of rain is expected in four days from July 20 in the upstream, which will increase the water pressure in the country's rivers, the ministry said in the press release.

However, even if the water level rises, the water level in the Padma river may start declining from July 26 or 27. The overall flood situation may return to normal in late July or the first week of August, it said.
