Depression at Bay, maritime ports asked to hoist cautionary signal

Maritime ports of Chattogram, Cox's Bazar, Mongla and Payra have been advised to keep hoisted distant cautionary signal no. one (r) one as the depression over southeast Bay and adjoining Andaman sea moved slightly west-northwestwards and is likely to intensify.

The depression was centred about 1,340 km south-southwest of Chattogram Port, 1,265 km south-southwest of Cox's Bazar port, 1,310 km south of Mongla Port and 1,270 km south of Payra Port around 6am today, according to a special weather bulletin of Bangladesh Met office.

It is likely to move further in a north-westerly direction.

Maximum sustained wind speed within 44 kms of the depression centre is about 40 kph rising to 50 kph in gusts or squalls, the bulletin also reads adding that sea will remain moderate near the depression centre.

All fishing boats and trawlers over north bay and deep sea have also been advised not to venture into the deep sea, the bulleting adds.
