Border Guard Bangladesh arrested an Indian national along with 18 gold bars at the Mujibnagar border in Meherpur yesterday.

Nur Hossain, 48, from Hridoypur village in Nadia, India, was arrested near pillar-104 of the Mujibnagar border, said BGB sources.

Lt Col Syed Mohammad Zahidur Rahman, commander of BGB Chuadanga Battalion-6, said the arrest was made while Nur was attempting to flee to India from Bangladesh.

The gold bars, weighing 2.18kg, were found in three packets wrapped with scotch tape in his possession.
